CTO Town Hall: How to manage effective remote teams; a management response to COVID-19

Overview

A lot of companies that are normally “office” companies are moving to or considering moving to remote work. We have some amazing resources in our communities that have been creating great remote culture for years. Our friends at GitLab have offered to lead a session on Remote Work best practices, and we will have a number of other CTOs join for a Q&A. Please join if you are interested in learning or participating.

The session will be recorded and distributed as an asset.

Agenda

To start with, it may be useful to understand people’s use cases. You should treat this as a journey, So it may be good to ask yourself these questions:

  1. What tools do I already have that support async/remote work?
  2. What barriers do I currently see to folks working remotely? (VPN, video chats, tech hardware, meeting times, policy violations)
  3. What is the minimal things I would want to do in the first week?
  4. What is my long term goal and vision here? (in the context of corono-virus this could last months, so a temporary solution here is probably not your best goal)
