Being a Tech Leader in the Music Industry with Scott Williams

We all know technology is constantly changing in every industry, but this is especially true in music. So what is it like being a tech leader in the music industry…

Every month we gather in forums of 5 to 7 Chief Technology Officers for half a day.  The meetings are facilitated by a professional coach which allows us to explore our challenges as individuals while relying on the experience and leadership of our peers to find the best plans of action.  We are accountable to each other and all conversations are confidential.

I’m really impressed by 7CTOs and love what they’re doing. I wanted to bring something new and original to the organization and this blog, so I thought I’d offer my current favorite recipe, an original Thai eggplant pork meal that I conjured up.

Nishant MathewCEO of Igocki

Since we are running two companies, our Agile Sprints start on different days of the week, so you’re not requiring both at the same time from our talent. If you’re a CTO trying to run two separate companies, I couldn’t recommend that more highly, LOL.

EVALDAS ALEXANDERCTO OF SIMPLEXITY VENTURES

Having a venue where you feel comfortable talking about the good, the bad, and the ugly of being a CTO is quite a thing indeed. Over the course of my membership, I’ve learned many things about myself, my organization, and how to better position my team for success.

Daniel NormanCTO OF GÜDTECH

If you look at the history of healthcare and technology, only in the last decade or so have hospitals begun to adopt electronic health care organizational systems. Now, after some bumpy years, they’re moving past the initial stage of acceptance to, “Hey now that we’ve got it….how do we leverage it? How can we use this to make things work better?”

DARRYL KUHNCTO OF ARISTA MD

7CTOs has allowed me to observe, share, learn and teach in this community based on the experiences of many talented people dealing with similar issues, but in different environments, with different approaches and varying results.

SHAIWAL PRIYADARSHIVP TECHNOLOGY AT IMAX

The excellent facilitation combined with the peer support has helped me get a lot better at what I do, and often uncovered things I should be doing.

LU SAENZVP OF ENGINEERING AT AUPTIX

The thing I love the most about 7CTOs is the community. Being part of a cohort of technology leaders facing the same issues that I am on a daily basis, plus having a larger depth of technology leadership talent available to help me grow, are all worthwhile benefits of 7CTOs to me.

SCOTT KOLANDCTO AT COMPOSIT GROUP

Absolutely, by being able to consult with peers and the forum leaders about the challenges I face, I can work through said challenges with better support and experience. 7CTOs also nurtures personal improvements to leadership and interpersonal skills, critical to being successful in the role of CTO.

MATT CULLERTONCTO AT F#

The exercises and lessons that Michael puts us through help my see the role and leader I need to grow into. As my team grows and more responsibilities are put on my shoulders, by doing my job as CTO more effectively and less as a developer, I will be able to deliver a product better than I would be able to build myself.

DANIEL MARASHLIANCTO AT PORTFOLIUM

7CTOs allowed me to work with a group of like minded individuals that are involved in the local San Diego technology scene. It also provide me with some new perspectives and tools to re engage me in the technology business I so love.
